Wilderness Study Area Release

Please cut & paste the following letter as a template for your letter (even more effective to create your own personal letter). Then fax and/or mail the letter to Congressman Doolittle (either office is fine). Congressman Doolittle was the author of a bill a few years back that does exactly what we need. Although these dunes are all outside of his district, he still cares about sensible land use, and he authored a WSA release bill a few years ago.

Congressman Doolittle:

My family enjoys riding off-highway vehicles at various sand dunes across the United States (or simply pick the dune(s) that apply to you: Coral Pink, UT, Christmas Valley, OR, Killpecker Wyoming, St. Anthony, ID).  Several of these dunes are impacted by restrictions imposed by Wilderness Study Areas. In each case, the Bureau of Land Management determined that these areas were not suitable for designation as Wilderness.

Although these WSAs were intended to be short-lived designations, the original Wilderness Act did not provide for automatic release after a certain amount of time had passed. The unfortunate consequence is we have turned these areas into pseudo-Wilderness because the land can't be released until Congress acts.

During the 107^th Congress, you introduced H.R. 4589, The Wilderness Study Area Release Act. We desperately need this bill to be reintroduced again. Please consider introducing The Wilderness Study Area Release Act again this session.
