2010 Kawasaki Teryx Press Intro

Badlands Off-Road Park
I had heard of Badlands Off-Road Park before, but never had the
opportunity to travel to Indiana to do any off-roading. That all
changed when I was invited to ride at Badlands with Kawasaki as they
rolled out their 2010 Kawasaki Teryx .
The Badlands ORV Park is a privately-owned off-road area of about 800
acres in western Indiana near Attica. The park is literally a
smorgasbord of off-road riding: sand dunes, pea gravel hills, bottomless
mud, the tightest off-camber woods trails, extreme rock crawling, shear
drop-offs, hood-deep water, and stream crossings.
We all showed up on a cold and wet morning in the middle of October
and I wasn't expecting the best day. I wasn't quite ready for the 40
degree temperature and riding in the rain usually isn't my thing. Plus
I had checked out the Badlands Off-Road Park website and it really
didn't look all that exciting. Boy was I in for an eye opener.
I hooked up with Nick Nelson in one 2010 Kawasaki Teryx and Thad
Josey of ATV Rider and Brad Howe from Dirt Wheels followed in another
2010 Teryx. Now for those of you that don't know, Nick has been an ATV
racer for many years, and doesn't know the meaning of "take it slow."
So it was game on! There was a marked loop six miles long that travels
through the sand and gravel, then heads into the trees. That is where
the fun really began. It is a tight one-way course that snakes its way
left, right, up and down, then across a few creek crossings before
popping back into the open again. Big fun! I had the video camera
pointing towards the car behind us and captured some of the action.
The Teryx is just an all around great vehicle for the varied type of
terrain we played in at Badlands. The Teryx 750 FI 4×4’s smooth and
powerful V-twin engine and sport-tuned wide-body chassis is powerful
enough in the sand, nimble enough in the trees and it can tackle a
little rock crawling too. I think that is what I like best about the
Teryx. Dunes and desert, camping or hunting, work and play it is right
at home.
2010 marks the second refinement to the Teryx that was recently
introduced in 2008. For 2009, the Teryx got digital fuel injection and
a new Sport model. Now for 2010, a hinged, forward-tilting hood, more
cooling capacity and an ignition cut-out for the parking brake are the
key upgrades. Along with the opening hood comes an all-new look. Not
quite sure I have fallen in love with the looks of the new hood, but I
sure do like the ability to open it. Now all we need is a little built
in storage area under the hood...
I jumped in several different vehicles with different drivers during
the day and had fun every time. The different terrain added some flavor
to the day, and the weather added levels of challenges with wet rocks,
wet sand and cold hands! Kawasaki always puts on a great event to show
off their vehicles and this years pick of the Badlands Off-Road Park in
Indiana was a refreshing change of scenery for me.

What's New for the 2010 Kawasaki Teryx 750 4x4:
- A new hinged, forward-tilting front hood enforces aggressive new
styling, and allows quick access to the radiator and front suspension
components, for easier maintenance and suspension tuning.
- New, inset headlights complement the aggressive new styling.
- A larger radiator fan helps keep engine temps under control in slow
going, and a larger-diameter hose increases coolant flow and overall
capacity. The coolant reserve tank was moved under the front cover for
easier maintenance.
- A new ignition cut-out feature protects the brake system by preventing
riding with the parking brake on.
- The tilt bed’s frame is engineered with increased rigidity for even
greater durability.
- Other minor modifications aimed at more efficient production and
durability keep the Teryx at the front of the RUV pack.
