2009 Honda Big Red MUV

2009 Honda Big Red MUV
Honda's new side x side - Big Red MUV

Marketing Info from Honda:

This is the multi-purpose utility vehicle you've been waiting for. The first multi-purpose utility vehicle built by Honda. We call it the 2009 Big Red™ – you're just going to call it the best multi-purpose ever. Powered by a 675cc fuel-injected engine that links up with a smooth-shifting automatic transmission, it can accommodate all your off-road utility needs. Front and rear independent double-wishbone suspension for a sure-footed, comfortable ride. Three selectable drive modes, for traction in virtually every situation. Plus, a tough dump bed and a receiver style hitch for all the chores you or your "boss" can dream up.

Size Comparison:

The Big Red is very wide: Width - 64.0 inches

That is wider than a RZR, Rhino, Ranger, Teryx and even a Prowler.

The length is right in there with everything but the RZR.

Weight:

Holy Hippos Batman!  The Big Red has a Curb Weight of 1431 pounds. That is almost 400 lbs. heavier than a Rhino.

Engine Comparison:

675cc OHV liquid-cooled PGM-fuel-injected single-cylinder engine. At least it is fuel injected, but 675cc?  Come on Honda.

Ground Clearance:

Ground Clearance is 10.3 inches.  This is too low.

Our Thoughts:

What a disappointment! If this is the truly long awaited Honda Side x Side all of us duners have been waiting for, we will just have to spend our money elsewhere.

More of a utility based UTV than a sport UTV.

Big Red? Why on earth would Honda dig up a name from back in the 1980's when they made ATCs?
