Open desert, dry lake beds, some sand dunes & extreme rock crawling trails. If you are looking for strictly sand dune riding, Johnson Valley is not your spot. Paddle tires are not recommended because the areas of sand dunes cannot be reached directly from your camping area. Johnson Valley offers dry lake beds and lots of trails so bring your dirt tires.

Johnson Valley OHV Area

From Barstow, CA take Hwy 247 (Barstow Rd.) south towards Yucca Valley.
At the intersection of Hwy 18, stay on Hwy 247 (now Old Woman Springs Rd.)

Enter the Johnson Valley OHV area by taking a left on Camp Rock Rd., Bessemer Mine Rd. or Boone Rd.

Camping Area:

Dry camping only. Means Dry Lake Bed or Soggy Dry Lake provide good areas for dry camping. Camping is allowed anywhere within the riding area that does not block travel on a road and is limited to 14 days.

No passengers allowed.
Helmets are required.
All vehicles must have a muffler or spark arrester and have either a street-legal license or be registered as an off-highway vehicle.
Vehicles being operated at night must have head and tail lights.
Possession or use of pallets or wood containing nails is prohibited (43 CFR 8365.1-6).
