This closure is the result of an environmental assessment and amendment to the King Range Management Plan that was prepared in October 1997.

October 2006 - Designated as a Wilderness Area

  • Part of the King Range National Conservation Area. 

  • Included in the King Range WSA? 

  • From California Wilderness Coalition: "In addition, since Black Sands Beach is the last remaining portion of the King Range NCA accessible to ORVs, closing it will help reduce opposition to designating the area as Wilderness in the near future."
